Abstract

This action research project was done in a fifth grade at Colegio Miguel Cruchaga Tocornal elementary school, Puente Alto. Strategies were developed to teach English to children and deal with disruptive behavior in a fifth grade. My proposal to solve this issue was looking for new teaching methodologies. For this reason, the topics that this research covers are teaching methods and classroom management, in order to improve the quality of learning of my students. I had to make several changes in my teaching practice, since it was not completely effective in terms of learning; as a consequence my students misbehave. This project was mostly focused on quantitative research methodology. I interviewed directly my fifth grade students with the purpose of collecting reliable data. They shared their experience in the English class. The main idea was to identify the causes why students misbehave. The results were analyzed to have a vision about how to hold an effective classroom management. As a conclusion, the appropriate strategies were not The Grammar-Translation Method; in contrast, the Communicative Language Teaching is a method that I felt comfortable with, because my students were able to participate in class. Also, it was crucial to get students involved in the activity and the topic.
